Power- and Drivetrain
The Jeep Compass comes with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that will give you 180 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque. This is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, though you can opt for a nine-speed automatic as well. The first three trims come standard with front-wheel drive, but that can be swapped out for four-wheel drive. All other trims have four-wheel drive built in.
Off-Road Ability
If your plan is to take your Jeep Compass off-road, you’ll definitely want a four-wheel-drive model. These models come with the Selec-Terrain?® management system, which includes settings for snow, sand, and mud. For the ultimate off-roading, choose the Trailhawk® trim. This comes with the Jeep Active Drive Low four-wheel-drive system that includes low-range gearing, as well as a rock traction setting. It also includes an off-road suspension, hill descent control, and skid plates.
