RAM trucks are the best in the business when it comes to power, but they all have different towing capabilities. This guide will help you pick you the perfect RAM pickup for your towing needs.
RAM 1500
The base engine in the RAM 1500 is a 3.6-liter V6 that puts out 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. You can also go with one of three optional engines:
- 0-liter V6 diesel: 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque
- 7-liter V8: 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque
- Supercharged 6.2-liter V8: 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque
No matter the engine, you will get an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but you can opt for four-wheel drive.
With the base engine, the RAM 1500 has a tow rating of 7,730 pounds. That increases to 12,560 pounds with the V6 diesel. For the most towing ability, you’ll want the V8, as it will let you tow up to 12,750 pounds.
RAM 2500
The RAM 2500 comes with a 6.4-liter V8 as the base engine that produces 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. If you instead go with the 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inline-6, you’ll get 370 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque. The base engine can tow up to 14,370 pounds, and that climbs to 19,010 pounds with the diesel engine.
RAM 3500
The standard engine in the RAM 3500 is the optional 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inline-6 engine in the RAM 2500. To unleash the best towing ability in this truck, you’ll want to go with the other 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inline-6 engine, which pumps out 420 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. This has a maximum towing rating of 37,100 pounds.
