Can’t decide between a RAM or a Chevy for your next pickup? Both RAM trucks and Chevy trucks have their merits, so it pays to compare a couple of models. Today, we're taking a closer look at the RAM 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500.

Power and Performance

The base RAM 1500 comes with a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque. There are several other engine options as well, with the most powerful being a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that offers 702 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 is equipped with a 4.3-liter V6 that puts out 285 horsepower and 305 lb.-ft. of torque. Its top engine option is also a 6.2-liter V8, but the best it can muster is 435 horsepower and 469 lb.-ft. of torque.

Gas Mileage

For its class, the RAM 1500 has outstanding fuel economy. The base engine will give you 20 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway, and if you go with the V6 diesel engine, you will get 22 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway. The Chevy Silverado 1500 only offers 16 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on the highway with its base engine.

Seating Capacity

You won’t find a pickup as roomy as the RAM 1500, as up to six people will fit very comfortably in its two rows. In particular, the Crew cab offers quite a bit of legroom. The base Chevy Silverado 1500 will only fit up to three people, and you will need to upgrade to get a cab with an additional row.

The RAM 1500 is a winner in all of these categories and more. If you’d like to see how it performs out on the road, just come down to Fields Chrysler Jeep® Dodge RAM Asheville for a test drive.
